オリンピックは33種目。
パラリンピックは22種目です。
スポーツで世界は繋がりますが言葉は異なりますね。
競技も英語で言えたら、より一層世界と繋がれるのではないでしょうか。
開催地として、世界中の人々とスポーツの面白さを語り合うのも
おもてなし英語化計画の一つではないかと思うのです。

野球＝baseball

Last contested at Beijing 2008, baseball and its sister sport softball have been reinstated to the Olympic programme and will form part of the Tokyo 2020 Games.
東京招致を機に野球、ソフトボールも競技に再入！
Given the popularity of baseball in Japan, an invitation by the International Olympic Committee for the host country to propose the temporary inclusion of additional events saw the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee propose both men’s baseball and women’s softball.

A sport loved by people of all ages the world over rejoins the Olympic programme for the first time since the Beijing 2008 Games.
Softball is thought to have begun in the USA as an indoor version of baseball, so the latter could continue to be played during the off-season.
野球から派生したインドアスポーツでオフシーズンにプレイされてきました。
The rules of both sports are very similar in terms of gameplay, with two teams of nine players seeking to score the most ‘runs’ by striking a ball and running round a sequence of bases to reach home.
ルールは野球とほぼ一緒。９人ずつ２チームがボールを打ってベースを周り得点を得る。
The teams alternate between batting and fielding, each session of which is called an ‘inning’, switching roles when the fielding team gets three opposing players out.
batting＝攻撃、fielding＝守備と交代しながらのルールも同じ。
inningは回のこと。
ソフトボールといえば目にも留まらぬあの豪速球。
ソフトボール復活の2020。強豪国アメリカに勝てるでしょうか。
